Walkthrough 4-1 How To Use This Walkthrough 4-2 Virtuous Mission 4-3 Operation Snake Eater --------------- 01.Introduction --------------- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the final (for now) chapter in the Metal Gear Solid trilogy. This game, to me, is the best in the series. The gameplay is in depth, and realistic, the music, sound, and graphics are amazing, and the story is very good. It completely pulls you in, and makes you feel like it's you on the mission, you in the jungle. It's feel is just absolutely stunning. The goal of this guide is to provide a help source for the stealth based action game that is MGS3. Read with caution. I have done my best to minimize the spoilers in this guide. Furthermore, if this is your first MGS experience, detailed summaries of the previous games in the Metal Gear universe have been included. Though I do recommend actually playing the games, if you're just looking to know the information, than look no further. --------------------- 02.Basics of the Game --------------------- ================== 2-1 ;:Controls:; ================== Directional Pad: Stalking. This applies to walking and crawling. Left Analog Stick: Normal movement. Use this to move Snake, there are two moving speeds, running and walking. Press this toward a wall to stick against it. It is also used to navigate the menus. Right Analog Stick: Camera movement. You can move the stick to orient the camera, in a way such that you can keep track of the action at hand. Once you move the stick where you want to see, press R3 to hold the camera in place. Moves Snake on the radio screen. Triangle: The action button. You use this to push barrels, climb trees/ladders, open doors, etc. In cutscenes it is used to zoom in, use the left analog stick while zoomed into move the camera around. Square: The weapon button. You use this button to fire your gun, throw your grenade, or attack with the knife. It's pressure sensitive, the function of which differs from weapon to weapon. When barehanded, you can drag fallen enemies by holding the button and using the left analog stick. Circle: Confirm/CQC. You use it to confirm a selection in the menu, and to do bare-handed techniques in-game. This includes CQC, grabbing in general, and knocking on walls. It is also used to call on the radio screen. X: Crouch/Prone. New to MGS3 there are two levels to pressing this button. While standing, a tap will make you crouch, another tap will make you stand back up, but if you hold the button, you're go straight into prone position. This also works the other way around, a quick tap from prone puts you in crouch, but a hard press from prone will make you stand up. Moving while crouched will make you go prone and crawl. Pressing X while running will make you roll, rolling now goes over/onto any climbable object (waist-high). If you hold the button while rolling you'll go straight into prone position. R1: First Person view. You cannot move while in first person, but you can attack with any weapon, and crouch. When crawling through tall grass, you will automatically go into first person view, you can move while this is occuring. You can also use this button with first person weapons like the sniper rifle, to strafe and stand on the tip of your toes. R2: While holding this button you can use the left analog stick to choose from the list of currently equipped weapons. While stuck up against a wall you can peek out from the right side. While in first person you can lean to the right. R3: Used to hold the camera in place. Zooms in Snake in the radio screen. L1: Using this, you can point your weapon in a fixed direction and move. Also, you can raise the accuracy of some weapons using this button, as you hold the weapon against your shoulder. When close, it auto-aims. L2: While holding this button you can use the left analog stick to choose from the list of currently equipped accessories. While stuck up against a wall you can peek out from the left side. While in first person you can lean to the left. L3: Interrogation. Used during CQC to get information out of the enemy. Start: Use the start button to enter/exit the Survival Viewer. Select: Use the select button to enter/exit the Radio screen. ===================== 2-2 ;:Game Basics:; ===================== The bare-bones of MGS2 remains intact in this game, and in the indoor areas, the gameplay is nearly the same, the following will be all the new techniques you need to keep in mind while in a jungle situation. Life Bar - Your Health, when this bar empties, you die. At the last 1/4 of the bar, you begin to bleed. Enemies can track fallen blood, and your life will drop faster as a result of bleeding. You will hear a noise signifying that you're bleeding, crouching will put pressure on the wound and restore your health faster. New to MGS3, your health is always restoring, the rate of which is determined by how much stamina you have, logically, the more the better. Stamina Bar - New to MGS3, this encompassing feature controls many aspects of the game, limiting, and improving your abilities as well. Your stamina decreases depending on the intensity of your activity. Rolling, crouching, running, and stalking all drop your stamina quite quickly. The more your stamina decreases, the less efficient you become; your arms won't hold the gun steadily, you won't be able to sneak as quietly, your stomach will growl, bringing attention to nearby enemies, etc. You increase your stamina by eating, the tastier the food, the more stamina you recover. Functions that previous relied on seperate items now rely on stamina, like the sniper rifle. The stamina bar also serves as your Grip, and O2 bars. It tells you how much strength you have left to hold on, and how much oxygen you have left. Eating - The majority of MGS3 takes place in a jungle, almost everything you need for the mission is procure-on-site, which means you find what you need, this includes food. No longer can you rely on an abundance of rations, now you must find or kill sustainance. This ranges from fruits and mushrooms, to snakes and frogs. Snake favors some foods over others, though sometimes, even the ones he doesn't like, if you keep feeding it to him, he'll gain an acquired taste for. The more he likes the food the more stamina he recovers. Food can spoil, or be poisonous from the get go. If it is, it makes Snake sick, and you have to heal him in the Cure menu. Animals - Food isn't the only use for animals, you can also take them out by tranqulizer. If you go into your BACKPACK and WEAPONS section, you can equip a caged animal, and throw it at an enemy for various effects, including distractions and attacks. Backpack - New to MGS3, as said above, you'll have to find everything you need in the jungle yourself, this includes weapons and equipment. The relevance of this is that you must choose wisely what you really want to have out at any given time for immediate access. Every item has a weight assigned to it, if you equip too much at one time, the weight will make your stamina drop quickly. You can only hold 8 weapons at a time, so make the best of that space. Battery - New to MGS3, because the jungle takes place in the 60s, features that you used to take for granted are now scarse, and restricted. You no longer have radar, but now have three alternatives, for example. Each one has it's own advantage, with many disadvantages, and even then they come at a price. All electronic items use a single battery that drains with use. Therm goggles, Night Vision Goggles, Motion Detector, Sonar. The upside is that the battery isn't temporary. It's a bioelectric cell that uses the bodies eneergies to charge. The more you roll and do dramatic actions, the faster it restores. This obviously offsets stamina as far as rationing your actions, so be careful and choose wisely given the situation. Stalking - New to MGS3, this is a technique that involves using the heel, outside edge of your feet, and tip of your toes, paired with looking out for and avoiding nosie making obstructions in your path to avoid making a sound as much as possible. All you have to do is press the dpad. This is crucial for safe hold-ups and pulling off cqc, but be careful, this uses stamina the quickest of any other technique! Also remember this applies to all form of movement, you can stalk-walk, and stalk-crawl. CQC (Close Quarters Combat) - An important new technique that greatly increases your options in close combat situations, and tactics in general. This is a series of moves used to take control of your opponent, assuming you're close to one, or many enemies, to keep control of the situation, or keep you moving in a potentially safe way. a.) Tapping the button 3 times does the old Punch-Punch-Kick combo. This kick is now a sweep that can knock a crowd off it's feet in no time, it also hits enemies laying on the ground, for a quicker way to wake up unconcious enemies. b.) Pressing the button while running toward an enemy will perform a powerful throw that knocks out the enemy immediately. c.) While not moving, lightly holding the button will enter a hold position, where you have them in a choke hold from behind. From here, many things can occur: 1.) One non-lethal option is to press L3, this interrogates the enemy, at which point they'll either retort in anger, or give you a piece of information in fear. 2.) Moving the left analog stick in this position will let you drag the enemy backwards, every few steps you'll tug hard, after three tugs the enemy will become unconscious. 3.) Tapping the button will do the old choke move, tap a few times to knock the enemy out. Tap many times to break their neck and kill them. 4.) Let go of the CQC button and quickly press and hold the weapon button. There will be a delay that gives you enough time to fire the weapon as you please, just remember to hold the weapon button again in between firing so that you don't let go of the enemy. Hold R1 in this position to fire in first person. You cannot move in this position. 5.) Press the button hard to use your knife to slit the enemies throat. 6.) Lightly press the button and a direction to throw the enemy to the ground. If in this situation you have a gun equipped, quickly draw your weapon to hold the enemy up on the ground. If you fire a weapon near their heads, they will give up an item, watch out for nearby threats though, if you're going to make a sound. Radio - The radio is how Major Tom, Para-Medic, and other characters will keep in contact with you. It is basically like the codec from the past games, except less advanced. You can also call them yourself for help, or advice. Cure - A completely new feature to the series, the Cure menu allows you to heal Snake. Over the course of the game, Snake will get injuries, ranging from gun- shot wounds, cuts, burns, and some other nasty problems. It's your duty to keep Snake healthy. Which means removing bullets, cleaning wounds, curing poison, and stomach aches, etc. The Cure menu allows you to do all of this. If you don't take care of your Snake, you run the risk of permanently shortening your health bar. You'll know when you have a serious injury, for your health bar will be part red. There are several different kinds of injuries and ailments you can suffer, that the Cure system takes care of. Here is a list of how to cure each one: -Broken Bone- Splint Bandage -Cut- Disinfectant Styptic Suture Kit Bandage -Bullet Bee- Knife Disinfectant Styptic -Crossbow Bolt- Knife Disinfectant Styptic Bandage -Burn- Ointment Bandage -Leech- Cigar -Food Poisoning- Antidote -Venom- Serum -Cold- C-Med -Stomach Ache- D-Med ================ 2-3 ;:Weapons:; ================ SVD (Dragunov Sniper Rifle) Press weapon or L1 to aim. Eating. You must hunt for food. It can be anywhere, and comes in several different varieties. Just in advance, I characterize stamina recovery in four ways: Low: Less than one bar recovered. Medium: A bar, or a bar and a half recovered. Good: Two bars recovered. Excellent: Three of more bars recovered. ****** Snakes ****** The most common animals you will find in this game are the different types of snake. They are nearly everywhere, and offer anywhere from low (Coral) to high (Giant Anaconda) stamina recovery. =King Cobra - Snake A= Taste: Very tasty Stamina Recovery: Excellent Can It Be Captured?: Yes Be careful of this Snake. If you come across one, it has the ability to bite, and poison you. =Taiwanese Cobra - Snake B= Taste: Tasty Stamina Recovery: Medium Can It Be Captured?: Yes This snake can bite, and poison as well. =Thai Cobra - Snake C= Taste: Pretty tasty Stamina Recovery: Medium Can It Be Captured?: Yes Another biter. =Coral Snake - Snake D= Taste: Tasty Stamina Recovery: Medium Can It Be Captured?: Yes While it looks a lot like the Milk Snake, the Coral Snake is more aggressive, and it will not hesitate to bite and poison you if given the chance. =Milk Snake - Snake E= Taste: Bad Stamina Recovery: Low Can It Be Captured?: No. Less aggressive than the Coral Snake. Also, if you become stuck or unsure of something, call your contacts for advice. -Always treat your wounds immediatly. With each wound completely treated, your life bar goes up a little. But it can also go down if you leave them uncared for for too long a time. -Avoid combat as much as possible. The last thing you want is some enemies taking a big chunk out of your health right before a boss battle -Use the best camo and paint for the job. Go into your menu and determine which is best used for that area. -If you must attack enemy soldiers, do so from afar. And try and do it when they are as far away as possible from other guards. -There are traps. Not just landmines anymore, genuine traps. Throughout the game you will encounter pit traps (holes covered with leaves, that give way when you step on them), snares (ropes that wrap around your leg/s and leave you hanging. Literally), as well as wire traps, which are either attached to cans on a string, which will alert nearby guards, or attached to spiked logs, which will be released and hit you. Oh, and Claymore landmines are still around as well. -Planning on doing a Foxhound rank? I suggest playing through Extreme once before. Learn the enemy patrol routes, and where they are. Once you know that, you can map out the best route possible to take for your Foxhound run. Plus, the camos you gather will transfer over, making achieving the Foxhound rank much easier. ---------------------------------- 03.Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater ---------------------------------- From the world-renowned, critically-acclaimed creator and producer of the Metal Gear Solid series, Hideo Kojima, comes the newest and most exciting installment in the popular franchise Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Introducing new gameplay, a new era and a new setting, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater changes the dynamics of stealth action to reach a new benchmark in action gaming. Set in the 1960s when two world powers struggle for global supremacy, an elite tactical soldier is sent on a dangerous mission to infiltrate a heavily guarded enemy territory and uncover highly coveted secrets behind a newly created weapon of mass destruction. Survival within these natural jungle environments and often unpredictable settings will require relying on basic animal instincts, as well as finely honed combat and hunting skills to succeed in the ultimate espionage mission. -------------- 04.Walkthrough -------------- This is where you will find a full, detailed guide to get you through Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. I HIGHLY suggest playing the game by yourself your first time through, and only referring to this occasionally if you REALLY need help, ===================================== 4-1 ;:How To Use This Walkthrough:; ===================================== Just to get you familiar with it, I'm going to explain how to use this walk- through. ***** Place <--The name of the place ***** -Recommended Camo- The camo uniform and facepaint I recommend for this area. -Good Eats- Any good food worth noting that is in this area. -Items- The location of any items and/or ammo in this area. -Strategy- A general strategy to get through the area. -Stealth Strategy- This how to get through the area in a true sneaking mission way. It will tell you how to get through an area quickly, with no alerts or kills. While some strategies can be applied to Extreme mode, not all can, so don't think of this as a FoxHound rank walkthrough. -Additional Information- No, additional information isn't the title, that will constantly change (To things like 'New Uniform', 'Ocelot Unit', etc). Basically any time you see a heading after Stealth Strategy, and before Interesting Information, that is additional information. It wont always be there. -Interesting Information- This is where I'll put certain things you can do to get a laugh, or just interesting things you can do in places. It wont always be there. Well there you have it. Hopefully that wasn't too confusing. This walkthrough was written using the Normal difficulty setting. Some elements of it can be applied to other difficulties, but not all can. Answer the question, choose your difficulty, and let's get started, but first, you might want to read the first bit of Interesting Information. -Interesting Information- Before starting your game you are greeted with a question of sorts. You are required to answer either: 1. I'm playing the MGS series for the first time!, 2. I like MGS1! 3. I like MGS2! While no one is completely sure what answers 1, or 2 do (it's rumored answering 'I like MGS1!' has your stamina dropping much slower), it is known what choosing answer number 3 does. Try it yourself. You may get a laugh. Don't worry, though. It's not permanent. ======================== 4-2 ;:Virtuous Mission:; ======================== *************** Dremuchij South *************** -Recommended Camo- Switch to the Leaf uniform, and Woodland paint before leaving the area. -Good Eats- Tree frogs can be found in the tall grass near where you landed, and mushrooms can be found growing on the bottom of the trees in that area as well. But the real prize here is the Giant Anaconda just a bit north of the climbable tree. Tranq it, or kill it, but make sure to get it. It recovers lots of stamina. Two Reticulated Pythons can be found in an area west of the starting point -Items- A Life Medicine needle can be found at the top of the hill. -Strategy- After a fascinating intro, where Snake is dropped right into enemy territory via a Halo jump, we start off. Either go right, around, and up the hill, or go left, climb under the log to get to the tree holding your backpack. Climb up the tree, walk across the branch, then hang down. Snake should automatically get the backpack, and then you will be treated to a lengthy radio call from Major Tom. Once this is over, head north to the next area. -Stealth Strategy- Crawl under the log to get to the tree, instead of going up the hill. Once you have your backpack, leave the area. -Interesting Information- Depending on what answer you gave on the questionaire when you started off your game, several things may happen. Those who chose the MGS2 option are in for a neat surprise. ******************* Dremuchij Swampland ******************* -Recommended Camo- Leaf uniform, Woodland paint. -Good Eats- Lots of food here. A total of six alligators, which when killed drop three Indian Gavials each. It's a bit tough, but they can be killed with the knife, or, if you like, you can taken them out by tossing grenades into their mouth when it's open. A hornet's nest is in the tree on the island in the very middle of the mud. Keep your distance when you shoot it down, though. After the muddy area, you can find a Retilicated Python in the grass, or shoot some fruit off the trees. I highly recommend getting the Hornet's Nest, and at least six Indian Gavial morsels. *Other way to get Gavials: You can shoot the Gavials with a tranq to put them to sleep, then take them out with the knife. It's much easier this way, because they don't attack unless you walk over them, where as awake Gavials attack if you get too close. Someone e-mailed me this alternate strategy to getting Indian Gavials, but the e-mail is no longer in my mail box, so I apologise to whoever sent this for not properly crediting you* -Items- Some grenades can be found on the right patch of land, a supressor for the MK22 on the left patch of land, and some burn ointment on the island. -Strategy- Nothing much here. A few items, as well as food can be found, but other than that, there's nothing for you to do, except go to the next area. Don't die in the mud. -Stealth Strategy- Blaze through the area. Don't worry about getting any food, but if you feel you should get some, just stick with the Hornet's Nest. *************** Dremuchij North *************** -Recommended Camo- Leaf uniform, Woodland paint. -Good Eats- If you go immediatly right after entering Dremuchij North, you will find a "secret area" of sorts. A Reticulated Python can be found here. If you go into the big grass field, you can find a Giant Anaconda crawling it's way around the grass. -Items- If you into the "secret area" that is to the immediate right of the entrance, you will also find an SVD Dragonuv sniper rifle. If you go back to the entrance of Dremuchij North and go straight ahead, you'll find a hollowed tree with a box of Grenades. If you go into the grassy field, another hollowed tree can be found, this time with ammo for the MK22 Hush Puppy. In that same grassy field, a hollowed log is laying on the ground. Inside it are Thermal Goggles. -Strategy- Ah, you're first time in contact with the enemies. While it is possible to just take them all down with your hush puppy, I find it much more satisfying to use the camouflage. I recommend you use the Leaf camo, and Woodland paint for best results. I prefer to crawl through the open log, and into the grass on the other side and wait until the first enemy walks by, before proceeding. When you get to where the enemies were standing in the cutscene wait until the guard making a circle around the area cannot see you before proceeding. After that, it's just a matter of tranqing the last guard, which shouldn't be too hard. The continue on. -Stealth Strategy- *Just a reminder, all stealth strategies are about getting through with no kills, and no alerts. You will always be using the Mk22 or Mosin Nagant, unless the strategy says otherwise* Just like the regular strategy, crawl through the open log, and sit in the grass on the other side for a moment. This time, instead of waiting for him to you and walk by, it's best to put him down with the Mk22 while he's still a fair distance away. Go to where they were standing in the cutscene, and put down the guard starting his circle of that small area. Lay on the ground, switch your uniform to Tiger Strie and crawl northeast a little til you're just under the fallen tree. From your position, look in FPV and take out the guard. He may be a little hard to see, for he is very well camouflaged. Before leaving the area, switch your uniform back to Leaf. *********** Dolinovodno *********** -Recommended Camo- Leaf uniform, Woodland paint. -Good Eats- Two Hornet's Nests in the same area! -Items- Once across the bridge, you may notice a little ledge below it. There are two ways to get to that ledge. 1. Hang off the bridge then, fall and catch the branch. 2. Make your way around, put your back to the wall and slowly shimmey to the ledge. On this ledge you'll find the XM16E1, which is an assault rifle, as well as Pentazemin, and Hush Puppy ammo. -Strategy- The cutscene should have give you a good idea of what to do here. Whip out your Hush Puppy, and fire at the Hornet's Nest. Not only does it scare of the guard, but it also allows you to take the Nest. Make your away across the bridge, once on the other side, you should see another guard start to move towards you. If you don't act fast, he'll see you. Above him is yet another Hornet's Nest (Use the Thermal Goggles if you can't see it), shoot it to scare him off, then grab the nest. -Stealth Strategy- Same as above. Shoot the first nest to scare off three of the guards, then once you are across the bridge, wait until the one guard comes around the corner, and shoot the second nest. Simple area. ******* Rassvet ******* -Recommended Camo- Tiger Stripe uniform, Woodland paint on the ground. Squares uniform, Splitter paint on the roof. -Good Eats- While technically not good, rats can be found crawling just about everywhere in this area. -Items- An M37 Shotgun can be found behind some boxes in the bottom west corner of the facility. If you go up the stairs, you will find a supressor for the XM16E1, as well as ammo for it. A Life Medicine can be found in the room to the left of Sokolov's. -Strategy- This area is tricky to write a FAQ for, because there are so many ways to go through it (And believe me, there are many more areas like this). Areas like this are the reason this walkthrough has multiple authors. So you can have more options for strategies. My preferable way to go through this is as follows: 1. There should be a guard in front of you. Either get close to him, and tranq him, or if your aim is good do it from afar. 2. Go right, and hug the fence as you run. To the northeast there should be two barrels, one standing, one laying. If a guard is standing near the barrels, tranq him. If not, move quietly to the grass next to the barrels and wait for the guard to pass. Once he does, head north and climb the ladder that is on the building. *I recommend the Tiger Stripe uniform for when hugging the fence. It provides slightly more coverage than the Leaf uniform* 3. Across the rooftop, there should be a support. You can walk on this support. Once you are on it, you can aim at and tranq the guards below you. After that, just walk to the door with Sokolov. Watch the long cutscenes that follow. -Stealth Strategy- Pretty much the same as above. Head northeast a little into the grass, and tranq the guard that is there. Run east, hugging the fence (With Tiger Stripe on) until you can run east anymore. Crawl north, then east and into the grass that is next to the barrels. From there, take out the guard standing next to the building, and go up the ladder. On the roof, put on the Squares uniform, and Splitter facepaint. Walk slowly, using the D-Pad, south on the roof until you reach the point where there is no roof. Look down at the doorway and tranq the guard that is there. Then jump down in front of the door. -Interesting Information- Try shooting the unconscious Ocelot in the head (with a fatal weapon of course) to be greeted with a time paradox, and Colonel Campbell yelling at you for changing the future. *********** Dolinovodno *********** -Recommended Camo- Whatever you like. -Good Eats- None -Items- None -Strategy- That's right, go back. As soon as you go into Dolinovodno, another long cut- scene starts. Meet the Cobras, and Volgin. -Stealth Strategy- Same as above. ********************* Dolinovodno Riverbank ********************* -Recommended Camo- None. You can't change right now. -Good Eats- None. -Items- None. -Strategy- This is your first time using the Cure menu. The only wounds Snake has right now are cuts and broken bones. Four cuts, and two broken bones to be precise. For the cuts, you must use Disinfectant, Styptic, Suture Kit, and a bandage, in no particular order. For the broken bones, you use a Splint, and a bandage, again in no particular order. Watch the cutscene, and that is the end....of Virtuous Mission that is. Now, you move on to Operation Snake Eater. -Stealth Strategy- Same as above. Just do it faster! ==================== End Virtuous Mission ==================== -Interesting Information- During the 'Snake Eater' intro movie, you can do the following things to have some fun: *Press R3 to change the icons (jets, Halo jumpers, bats, etc), and rotate the right analog stick to make them move and appear on screen. *Press L3 to change the language of the credits, and rotate the left stick to make them wave around. *Press any D-pad direction to make little circles come up on the screen. *Press R1 to hear the singer whisper "Snake Eater". ============================= 4-2 ;:Operation Snake Eater:; ============================= -Interesting Information- When given the option to look in first person view, do so and look directly up. Someone sure loves their hot girl posters. ************** Dremuchij East ************** -Recommended Camo- Black uniform, Black paint. -Good Eats- There is a Reticulated Python to the immediate left of your starting point. After passing between the two big rocks, stand there for a bit and wait for a Japanese Flying Squirrel to crawl across the ground, and up the tree. Just left of that squirrel, is another Reticulated Python. And in the grass area that's directly before the area where you leave the screen, yet another Reticulated Python can be found. Eat Snakes Indeed. -Items- You can find two medical plants in this area. One gives you Styptic, the other gives you C-Med -Strategy- Basically just head north, then west from your current location. -Stealth Strategy- Just run through the area. Forget about food. *************** Dremuchij North *************** -Recommended Camo- Black uniform, Black paint. -Good Eats- Tired of snakes, yet? I hope not. Immediatly after jumping off the cliff, you should see another Reticulated Python. A bit North of him, hiding in the grass, is yet another. As you're going down the path, around the time you hear the horse, you should spot a snake hanging on a tree. That is a Green Tree Python, and it's quite nice to have. -Strategy- This area should seem familiar. You were just here on Virtuos Mission. Head up, then left and jump off the cliff. Keep going northwest until the cutscene begins. -Stealth Strategy- Same as above. Don't bother with food, and go immediatly to the exit. *************** Dremuchij North *************** -Recommended Camo- Black uniform, Black paint. -Good Eats- The animals here are the same, and in the same places, as they were in the Virtuous Mission. This time though, a King Cobra is in the grass right next to where the guards are standing when they first see the drone. -Strategy- Yes, we're still here. This time however, we are in a different part of it, and there are guards. If you want to do things the stealthy way, go off to the right and hide in the grass. You don't have any weapons except the knife, so killing the guards isn't such a good idea. While the Leaf camo works well, the Black camo works even better, suprisingly. Just sit there and wait. Two guards appear. At one point, they will both run close to the drone, and pause in front of it, looking at it. This is your chance, be quick, and head north to more grass. Here will be an intersection, one left, one up. By going up, you don't have to deal with another enemy, but by going left you get a Giant Anaconda (But you have lots of snakes now, if you've been using this, so you don't really need it. -Stealth Strategy- As soon as you have control again, head south to Dremuchij Swampland. Now you may be wondering why, so I'll explain. Guards come to investigate the explosion. If they see the drone, they know an enemy has infiltrated, and you get put into Caution mode, while unarmed. Not fun. Heading south prevents them from seeing the wreckage, hence preventing the Caution mode. After entering Dremuchij Swampland, immediatly head back to Dremuchij North. When you get to the place where you can choose to go east or north. There are guards in both directions, but let's go east to make it easier. As you approach the big grassy field, you should see a guard heading down hill. He doesn't even know you're there, so just run behind him and head to Dolinovodno. *********** Dolinovodno *********** -Recommended Camo- Black uniform, Black paint. -Good Eats- If you manage to somehow have a gun, whether it be from this being your second time through the game, or by playing on Very Easy, you can shoot down a Hornet's Nest from a two trees on each side of the bridge. -Items- Remember that area under the bridge? Let's go back to that. Here you can find a Life Medicine, some Smoke Grenades, and your first new camo...RAINDROP! Not very useful, but it looks pretty cool. -Strategy- This place is kinda tricky now, considering you have no weapon. Lay low in the grass at the top, and use Black camo. As he begins to walk on the bridge, you can slide down the hill, and quietly approach him for a nice CQC kill, or knock out, whichever you prefer. Cross the bridge, and wait in the grass. Another guard should appear. Either stealth kill him, or sneak past. Then head north to the next area. -Stealth Strategy- Get down and crawl to the the point where you can look down on the bridge. Watch the guard, and wait until he has his back turned and starts going on to the bridge. When he does, slide down the cliff, stalk up behind him, and CQC throw him to knock him out. Go across the bridge. Once on the other side, get down and crawl to the grass north of you. Look southwest, and wait until the guard turns around and starts walking away. Then head to the exit of the screen. ******* Rassvet ******* -Recommend Camo- Tree Bark uniform, Splitter paint. Or, if this is your second game, then the Snake uniform works much better. -Good Eats- There are rats crawling all over the place, and two Reticulated Pythons in the grass in front of the red wall on the south side of the building. -Items- Many items in this place. First off, head up the two stairways to find an AK-47 assault rifle. If you go to the room that is to the left of where Sokolov was being held, you can climb some crates and get the Cardboard Box A (Yes, it is back!). Directly behind the room where Sokolov was being held, you can find the Zombie face paint. Another not very useful one, but it looks badass. In Sokolov's room, in the locker, you can find some Thermal Goggles. -Strategy- No enemies here. There are some handy items here, so I suggest you scroll down, see what they are, and get them. Go in to Sokolov's room, then exit for the cutscene to start. After the cutscene, in the morning, Ocelot guards are surrounding you. There are some pretty good items in the area that you can get before the cutscene with Eva starts, so scroll up a bit and see what they are. You have to take out all nine guards. You can kill them, knock them unconscious, or tranq them. -Stealth Strategy- -Interesting Information- Gotten to know Mr. Sigint yet? Do so. Call him once. Then call him with no shirt on. After that, call him with the zombie face paint. And finally, for the funniest one, call him while wearing the box. Also, when the game suggests you to, press R1 after meeting Eva... ************ Chyomyj Prud ************ -Recommended Camo- Raindrop uniform, Splitter paint. -Good Eats- After entering, travel right a bit to find a Retilucated Python. And there are crocodiles, and fish in the murky water. -Items- The items here are a little tricky. Go west, and into the water, and continue north. Dive underwater and keep going Northwest. You should see a gap under a log. Swim under it, then onto shore. Go north, and you should find a climb-able tree. Climb up the branch, then hang, and cross the wire. You'll see another tree and another wire. Do a drop catch (X to drop, then Triangle to catch the second wire) and continue crossing on the second wire. You'll see a cliff, with an item on it. Drop down and grab the item. It is the Croc Cap. After that, go east, and slide down the cliff. Keep going east, and then go into the water. Either look in first person view until you see the name of it, or use Thermal Goggles to see the item under the water. It is the GA-KO camo uniform. -Strategy- Well basically you just have to get to the other side of the lake. Once on the other side, equip your Thermal Goggles. You'll see a red line going across two trees. While you can see this line without them, it's easier to use the goggles. Crawl under the line, the continue on. -Stealth Strategy- Same as above. Just get across as fast as you can. -Interesting Information- If you don't mind continues, have Snake go near a croc, or touch a croc. ******************* Bolshaya Past South ******************* -Recommended Camo- Leaf uniform, Woodland paint. -Good Eats- Nothin new. -Items- Once you're past the second electric fence, and heading right, you should see two pools of quickmud. Beyond those pools are a ledge. Climb up, the press your back to the rock, and wall-walk across. On the other side you will find the Splitter camo uniform. After that camo is a third electric fence with a hole in it. Crawl under and head west a little. You should spot a hollowed tree. In the tree is the Choco Chip camo uniform. -Strategy- Get close to the east side of the fence. It's an electric fence, so don't touch it. On the east side, there is a gap at the bottom. You can crawl under it. Stay on your stomach and continue crawling forward. You're staying on the ground because there are landmines in that area, and so you're not seen. You may spot some guards or dogs on the other side of the fence. If so, shoot them, quietly. Head west until you notice a hole in the fence. Alternatively, you can climb the tree and jump down on the other side. Head west first, and equip your Thermal Goggles. You should see 2 or 3 guards. With your Mk22, or your M19, aim for the head and take them down. Then backtrack, go up the unexplored east path. Stay on the ground, and use your Leaf camo. A guard should be very close to one of the two pools of quick- mud. Take him before moving on. If you took out the guards on the other side, like I suggested, there should only be one remaining. Tranq, or kill him, or wait til you're on the otherside of the fence to sneak past him. This fence has yet another hole in it. After crawling under, head Northwest, or Northeast. Both lead to the next area. ****************** Bolshaya Past Base ****************** -Recommended Camo- Tiger Stripe uniform, Splitter camo on the ground. Olive Drab uniform if you plan on going on the roof. -Good Eats- In the shack with the Mousetrap, you can find a Russian Ration (bleh) and an RC Mate (Yay!). -Items- There is the Water camo uniform on the roof. Inside the building, in the second room you, can find a suppressor for your M19. Under the beds are a mousetrap, and Mk22 ammo. There is a shack to the north of the building. Inside you can find a Mousetrap. After exiting the shack, head west, and jump into the trench. You will come across a wooden board placed over it. Under the board is the face paint Snow pattern. In the northeast, there is a small building. Inside are some medical supplies. A Bandage, Digestive Medicine, Antidote, and a Life Medicine. -Strategy- Take out your gun and shoot the guard standing to the north. Move west until you are parallel with the door that is being guarded. Shoot the guard there, then move your aim to the left and shoot another guard who should be standing around there. Go to the door that was being guarded, but don't go in yet. Use the ladder that is right there and claim to the roof. Equip Olive Drab camo, move to the east edge of the roof, and get down on your knee. This gives you a pretty good view on the whole area, and allows you to take out the enemies all of the enemies. Once you're done, climb back down, or jump off, and head north to the next area. -Stealth Strategy- -Interesting Information- You can use TNT, or a gun turret to destroy the Hind and change things around a bit in an area later in the game. ********************* Bolshaya Past Crevice ********************* -Recommended Camo- Doesn't really matter here. -Good Eats- You can find several animals on this battlefield, including rabbits, and King Cobras. -Items- There is M19 ammo, Grenades, and Mk22 ammo here. If you take away Ocelot's stamina bar (by using the Mk22) a special Animal camo uniform will be waiting for you in the cave below. -Boss Battle: Ocelot- This fight is pretty straight forward. When you find an opening, shoot him. If you hit him in the head, it does more damage. When one of his troops says they'll do something, stay completely still, and their shots will miss. Can't really give a strategy, because there's not very many options. You can hide behind one of the rocks, and shoot him from there. It provides adequate cover from his shots, but he does richochet bullets which can still hit you. -Making Ocelot Mad- If you kill the goat, shoot a beehive near Ocelot, climb up the tree, or use a grenade, Ocelot will get mad at you. -Impressing Ocelot- If you're on your second playthrough, you can spin the SAA to impress Ocelot. He begins spinning his as well. If you're quick enough, you can get a shot off in this moment of weakness on Ocelot's part. -New Uniform- Tranqing Ocelot gets you the Animals uniform, which prevents any shakiness in your hands while holding guns. ************************ Chyomaya Peschera Branch ************************ -Recommended Camo- There are no guards here, so it doesn't matter. Tiger Stripe uniform, and Splitter camo looks good if you want to blend in, though. -Good Eats- While not fufilling, Vampire Bats can be found here, as well as a new type of snake (while crawling through the small tunnel) -Items- The Torch (how to get it is explained below), some Bug Juice (after the Bat encounter), and an Animal camo uniform (Only if you drained Ocelot's stamina bar, if you did, it will be at your starting point) are in this cave area. -Strategy- The bad thing about this area isn't it's long and hard to spell name, it's the fact that the area is nearly completely dark. The only light you'll have for now is your cigar. Equip that and go on. Now it's hard to see, so you'll have to feel your way around sometimes. First off, go right (your right). Hug the wall and keep going until you reach a path. Don't go down it. Instead, go west from you current position. You'll find a second path. This will lead to a place with two waterfalls. In between these waterfalls, is a crevice. A torch is in the crevice. Get it, light it, backtrack. After exiting the passage you just came from, move east a little. You should spot a small hole in the rock. Get down and crawl through it. You'll end up on top of the waterfalls. Go through the passage on top of the waterfalls. Half way through, you'll be attacked by bats. Either ignore them and move on, or kill them and move on. ********************** Chyomaya Peschera Cave ********************** -Good Eats- Thai Cobra, and more bats. -Items- M37 Shotgun, Smoke Grenades, Snow camo -Strategy- Upon entering this area, you are greeted with a fork in the path. The left path takes you straight to the next area. If you take the right path instead (which I recommend) you find an M37 Shotgun. After finding the shotgun, get down immediatly and crawl north. You'll find yourself under the rock. Keep crawling til you find a crawlspace, and crawl through that. Once you reach the end of that, you'll be in a small area. In this area, you can pick up the Snow camo uniform. Very handy later on. North of the camo, is another crawl space. Crawl through and you'll be on the left path. Pick up the Smoke Grenades and move on. -Stealth Strategy- I suggest you take the right path, just to get the M37 (it's helpful in the battle with The Pain), but don't bother going for the Snow uniform. Once you have the M37, backtrack and take the left path straight to The Pain. ********************** Chyomaya Peschera Cave ********************** -Recommended Camo- None really help you when you're above the water, and from what I have found, all uniforms give you 95% coverage if you're deep enough in the water, so it doesn't really matter. -Good Eats- There are fish in the water that you can kill and eat. -Items- The Pain's Hornet Stripe camo uniform. Ak ammo. Mk22 ammo. M37 ammo. -Boss Battle: The Pain- First, pull out whatever gun you prefer to use, and shoot him twice in the head (headshots do the most damage). I'd choose either your Mk22, M19, or the shotgun. Once you do that, he'll call his bees to him, and surround him like a shield. At this point, I suggest moving to the second main platform. It's northeast to your current position. You cannot hit him while the bees are on him. You can either wait until he sends them towards you, or you can use a Smoke Grenade (which, if you've been following this, you should have) to make them get off his body. Once the Smoke Grenade explodes, put on the Thermal Goggles, and shoot him in the head as many times as you can. If he sends bees after you, jump in the water. Once you get his health, or stamina bar, halfway down, he removes his mask and lets the "Bullet Bees" loose. He still keeps his other usual attacks though. If you're hit by a "Bullet Bee" you have to go to the Cure menu, dig it out with a knife, use a Styptic and a Disinfectant. Just keep using the same strategy as the first phase, and you should be fine. The Pain has six different kinds of attacks. 1. The attack he'll always start out with. He'll throw these three capsule things at you, which cover Snake in something which attracts hornets to him. Get it off by diving in the water. 2. Grenade. He'll yell "Grenade!" and his hornets will surround one and carry it towards you. Shoot it out of the air, or dodge it. 3. Tommy Gun. He'll announce this one by it's name as well. He'll shoot hornets at you rapidly. Dodge this by hiding deep underwater. 4. He'll have his hornets create a copy of himself. You have to shoot one. If you shoot the wrong one, he has his hornets drop several grenades on you. 5. Completely cover you in hornets, from head to toe. Escape by going in the water. 6. Send his bullet bees after you. -New Uniform- Depleting The Pain's stamina gauge gives you the Hornet Stripe camo. This camo prevents you from getting hurt by any hornets, leeches, and spiders, and also allows you to "control" hornets. Sometimes after the battle, the Hornet Stripe camo stays on the platform Pain was on. If this happens to be the case for you, just head toward the exit. You'll notice a small incline in the rock, and a path you can follow that leads to a ledge above The Pain's platform. You can roll from the ledge to the platform, and claim your camo. Once you defeat him, head to the exit, which should be north of the second platform. ******************************** Chyornaya Peschera Cave Entrance ******************************** -Recommended Camo- Tiger Stripe uniform, Splitter paint. -Good Eats- There are some Golovas on the ground after the cutscene, and some rats as well. In the second clearing, you'll see two snakes on the ground. They are Thai Cobras, and provide a moderate stamina boost. -Items- After the cutscene, you'll find a gap in the rock wall. The Mine Detector is there. In the second clearling, there is a small cave to the west that holds AK ammo, M19 ammo, and Mk22 ammo. -Strategy- Head north from your position until a cutscene starts. I know what you're thinking. Hovercrafts in the 60s? They did exist. Not in the advanced way they do in the game, but they did exist. I believe Sigint can you fill you in on it. After the cutscene keep heading north to a cliff. Find the paths and walk your way down. The head north some more into the next area. *************** Ponizovje South *************** -Good Eats- Score some fish from under the water if you're low on food. -Items- There are some Chaff Grenades under water, at the north end of the screen. -Strategy- There are two hovercraft guards patrolling this area. They can and will see you if you try and cross the normal way. I suggest equipping the Croc Cap, and using the Water camo (If you've been using this guide, you should have both). Once you reach the other side, you'll see two paths. One is barely noticeable and is to the northwest. The other is directly north. Let's head to the north- west one, just for a new weapon. ************** Ponizovje West ************** -Items- SVD Dragunov Sniper Rifle in the room, along with TNT, Grenades, Mk22, Ak-47, and M37 ammo. There is also an M19 suppressor deep under the water in the south of the area, and an Mk22 suppressor behind some boxes next to the room the SVD is in. There is also Mk22 and AK ammo on the south boat, and some Stun Grenades and WP Grenades on the north boat. -Strategy- There are two guards in this area. One is standing to the north, and one to the west. You're coming from the east, so the one to the west will be directly in front of you. Take him out with a suppressed weapon, swim until you can see the guard to the north, and take him out as well. Climb up onto the pier and make your way to the door. Inside, you will find an SVD Dragunov Sniper Rifle, some TNT and Grenades, as well as AK, Mk22, and M37 ammo. Backtrack to Ponizovje South, then take the unexplored path to the north. ***************************** Ponizovje Warehouse: Exterior ***************************** -Good Eats- Still fish... -Items- There are two docks in this area. An east one and a west one. On the west one, you can find NVG, Night Vision Goggles. These are helpful during a boss battle later. There are also two boats docked at the west pier. One has Mk22 ammo and Stun Grenades, the other has AK ammo. In the water, you can find SVD ammo, M37 ammo, a suppressor for the M19, and M19 ammo. -Strategy- "You got a sniper rifle? You can use that against Wolf! Hurry up, and save Meryl!" Just kidding. But this is a great oppurtunity to try it out. While I prefer the sniper rifle, you don't have to use it. The M19, Mk22, and the AK all work as well. There should be a guard standing on the dock to the immediate north of you. Take him out. You can either swim to that dock and shoot the second guard from there, or you can wait for him to catch a glimpse of the first guards corpse, and move to investigate. Either way, once they are both dead/asleep, climb onto the pier and enter the hallway to go to the next area. -Interesting Information- You have the sniper rifle, right? Well immediatly after the cutscene, equip it and look through the lens. You should see The End in his wheelchair. If you want to skip the boss fight with him, you can shoot him a few times here. Just remember to dodge that wheel when it comes flying at you. ******************* Ponizovje Warehouse ******************* -Items- After entering the warehouse from the hall, directly south of you is some Antidote, and some Serum. The Desert face paint can be found behind a box, in the south part of this warehouse. On the second floor, you will find some Styptic, and some Disinfectant. In the room, you will find a Calorie Mate, and some Instant Noodles, both very helpful. You'll also find a Mousetrap. Considerably less helpful. Now, I know what you're thinking. You want that item on the boxes on the first floor, but you don't know how to get to it, right? Just go the second floor, hang on the rail, drop down and claim your Mk22 Suppressor. -Strategy- The best camo for this area is the Splitter, along with Splitter face paint. It only gives you 40% when moving slow or standing still, and 55% when crouching, so while it is the best in the area, it's not guaranteed to keep you unseen. The way I go through here is, after coming out of the hall, crouch at the top of the stairs and wait with your gun drawn. Take out the guard as he approaches. Move to the south area, where the Desert face paint can be found, and aim up. You should spot a guard at the very top level. Take him out, climb the stairs, and head to the next area. ******************* Graniny Gorki South ******************* -Good Eats- There aren't any good foods here. Just the stuff you know about, Retilucated Pythons, and fruit. The reason I included this though, is to warn you. Do not eat the mushrooms. They are poisonous. Plus, they will be helpful in an upcoming battle, so leave them be. You can find a Tsuchinoko by repeatedly laying mousetraps all over. Remember, don't eat or kill it. -Items- You can find a Life Medicine below a pit trap in a raised area to the east of your starting point. -Strategy- There are no enemies here, but there are many traps. Covered pits, snares, logs with spikes, wire traps, landmines, and quickmud. With your trusty Thermal Goggles, you should be able to avoid just about every trap. The exit to this area is directly north of your starting position. You just have to maneuver past the traps. ***************************************** Graniny Gorki Lab Exterior: Outside Walls ***************************************** -Items- After crawling under the fence, directly ahead of you is a Suppressor for the M19. -Strategy- From the moment you enter, equip your Thermal Goggles. There should be one guard to the right, and a guard and a dog to the left. I used SVD to take out the guard on the right, as well as the dog, and second guard. Once they are all taken care of, head west until you can't go any farther, and look at the fence. You should see a hole at the bottom of it. You know what to do. Once on the other side, there are two ways you can get it. You can crawl through a hole in the wall on the side you are currently on, or you can head east, to the other side of the building, and knock on the door. A guard will hear you and let you in. If you choose the latter option, back away from the door and kill the guard. You don't want an Alert. **************************************** Graniny Gorki Lab Exterior: Inside Walls **************************************** -Items- There is a small building in the northeast, to the right of the main lab building. In it you can find rge XM16E1 assault rifle, some TNT, SVD ammo and AK-47 and M37 ammo. If you go into the ventilation shaft, you can get the Oyama face paint. -Strategy- There are three guards in this area. I entered from the door on the east. After going around the small building, there is a guard to the north. Take him out. Go to where he was standing and look west. There should be another guard all the way across the field. I took him out with the sniper rifle. Keep the rifle out and wait until you see the third guard approaching the downed guard. Shoot him as well. Now here is what I did when I entered from the hole in the fence. If you look north/northeast you'll see two guards. The first one is close enough to be taken down by the M19 or Mk22, but the third is farther away. Use the Ak with zoom, or the rifle. The third guard is across the field. Again, the rifle works wonders here. Now before doing anything, equip the Scientist uniform and take off any face paint you may have on. There are two ways to enter the lab. You can use a hole in the wall that leads to some ventilation shafts, and into an outdoor part of the lab, or you can just go through the door. Either works, just keep that disguise on. ******************** Graniny Gorki Lab 1F ******************** -Items- If you're entering from the main door, instead of ignoring the hallway, head through it. The first door you'll come to is a small library like room. Be careful. There is a scientist in here. There are also some medical supplies, including Bandages, a Suture Kit, some Serum, and Ointment. If you entered from the vent, this will be the room directly below you. Head up the stairs to the second floor. There many doors here. The first one to the north is a room with a Mk22 Supressor in it. The one above it is a bathroom. The third stall is locked. Punch it open, and go inside and you'll get the Fly camo. There is a door across from the bathroom door. It leads to outside. If you missed the Choco Chip camo earlier, this is your second, and last time to be able to get it. It's on the balcony. Exploring the other rooms on the top floor, you will find Instant Noodles, a Calorie Mate, and a Book. If you go to the bottom floor, you will find a Life Medicine. -Strategy- First off, DO NOT GET NEAR ANY SCIENTISTS. While the guards can't tell you apart from the rest, the other scientists can. If a scientist looks at you, but it doesn't go into alert mode, either turn your back and press triangle (it makes Snake push his glasses up, like the other scientists) or run away. If you entered from the door... Go past the main desk and head north, past the hall, to a door on the right. Go through it. Go through the room and down the stairs. If you entered from the ventilation shaft... Go through the door directly in front of you. When you're in the building, head south, then left til the end of the hallway. The north, and left again. You'll be in the main hallway past the main desk. Go north and through the door on the right hand side. Go through the room and down the stairs. ************************* Graniny Gorki Lab B1 West ************************* -Items- Once you're through the hall, there are two doors. One on the west wall and one on the east. In the east room there is Cigar Gas-Spray. There are also some Knockout Handkerchiefs in the left locker in the west room. In the lab, there is an Mk22 Supressor, and a Battery. -Strategy- You should still have the scientist disguise on. Go down the hall and enter the door on the west wall. There is a scientist in here. You must avoid him. The next room is a lab. If you just run through the room, you will be able to avoid the two scientists. Run north, then west and go through the door. Go through the second door, and watch the cutscene. When the cutscenes are over, go all the way back to Graniny Gorki South. The enemy placements are the exact same as they were on the way here, and there are no new items to get, so there is no reason for me to guide you all the way back there. -Interesting Information- There is a Metal Gear RAY model in Granin's room. The design he shows you is the design for Metal Gear Rex, and if you look closely at the wall, you'll see a picture of Granin standing with a certain man in glasses. That man is most likely Hal "Otacon" Emmerich's father. ******************* Graniny Gorki South ******************* -Good Eats- You can find a Tsuchinoko by repeatedly laying mousetraps all over. Remember, don't eat or kill it. -Items- Ammo all over the place. -Boss Battle: The Fear- First thing's first, we have to heal you up. Immediatly go to the Cure menu. For the poison, use a serum. For the bolt in your leg, use the Knife, the Disinfectant, the Styptic and the Bandage. Now, you're healed. Time for the fight to begin. Equip your Thermal Goggles and look up straight, but up a little. The Fear is in the tree in front of you. If you plan on killing him, it's best to shoot him twice with the shotgun. If you plan on tranqing him, it's best to shoot him twice with the Mk22. He'll begin to jump from tree to tree. Every chance you get, whether he is in a tree, or on the ground, shoot him. Every once and a while he'll stop to take out his crossbow and shoot you. Take this oppurtunity to shoot him once or twice, before running to dodge his arrows. The Fear has three kind of attacks. 1. He'll shoot a barrage of regular crossbow bolts at you. You'll know this is coming, because you'll hear the "twang" of his bow, and he'll stop on a branch momentarily. 2. He'll shoot a poisoned arrow at you. He signifies this by yelling "BURN!". (If you get hit by the poisoned arrow, you not only have to remove the arrow, but you must also cure the poison) 3. He'll crawl off a tree, crawl quickly towards you, and attack you. If you have the Thermal Goggles, you can use these to see him coming, and roll to hit him. -Poisoning The Fear- Shoot the mushrooms, and frogs and that area. When The Fear gets hungry, he'll eat them, and be poisoned. When he is poisoned, he is no longer invisible, and he loses health quickly. Plus he gets no stamina back. You can alos throw rotten food, to have the same effect. -New Uniform- Depleting Fear's stamina gauge gets you another new camo uniform. This one is called Spider. It grants you almost always 80% coverage, but lowers your stamina very quickly. When the battle is over, head south and back to the warehouse. ******************* Ponizovje Warehouse ******************* -Good Eats- There are crabs on the ground. Want some crabs? -Items- Nothing has changed here. It is all the same. -Strategy- There are two guards on the ground floor below. If you don't know what to do by now...well then, I can't help you anymore. You must go back and train further, until you are ready for Mortal Kombat. Anyways, once they're out, head back to the original entrance. You know, the one you came to from the docks. There is a door above that entrance. That is your new exit. ***************** Svyatogomyj South ***************** -Good Eats- There are a few Coral Snakes hanging around. -Items- If you put on your Thermal Goggles, you'll see several plants that give off heat. You can shoot these plants for medical items, including Splints, C Med, and Styptics. -Strategy- Just walk through to the next area. Not very hard. **************** Svyatogomyj West **************** -Items- M19 ammo next to a pit trap near the north exit. -Strategy- Head north til you reach a fork. You can go north or west. This guide shall be going north. When you reach the grass, equip your Thermal Goggles, get down, and crawl a little north. You should see a pit trap right in front of you. Stay lying down for a bit til you see a guard. Take him out. Head west, then north again. There's a guard in the little trench, but if you're fast enough he wont see you. Go northeast until you get to a winding path. I suggest crawling along the path since there is a guard in very close range to where you will be when you reach the end of it. Take him out when you see him. There are two exits in from this area. One to the direct north, and one to the northeast. The north one has a wire inbetween two trees, a trap obviously, plus a guard patrolling near it. Go north if you want to continue the game. However, going northeast will allow you to get an optional (but badass) weapon. Your choice. I will provide a strategy for the northeast exit. ***************** Syvatogornyj East ***************** -Good Eats- In the small wooden shack you can find a Russian Ration, and two RC Mates. -Items- You can find the M63 assault rifle in big cabin, as well as the M37 if you missed it earlier. You can also find M16, SVD, M37 and Mk22 ammo in the cabin. In the bedroom of the cabin, you can find suppressors for the Mk, M19, and M16. You can also find TNT under one of the beds. -Strategy- There's a fork here. One going north, and one going east. Let's go north first. Get down and start crawling up the hill. Keep going until you see a guard. Immediatly after doing that, get in a crouching position and shoot the second guard that was behind the one you just shot. Keep going up the hill til you get to an area right above a small wooden shack. If you've seen the E3 2004 trailer, this area should look familiar. Pull out your sniper rifle, and wait for the guard on the walkway/patio thing to be in front of the second window, then shoot. If you shoot him before, his scream of death will be heard by the other guards. Once you take him out, jump off the shack and head to the back of the cabin which is east of you. There is a climbable tree here. Use it and get on the roof. While on the roof, go east. Jump off the roof, and head to the grass next to the turret. If there is a guard below you when you are on the roof, wait until he goes inside. Crouch in the grass and you'll be in a great shooting spot. The guard inside can barely seen through the window, take him out. The last guard that is outside is on the walkway/patio directly in front of the cabin, but his parole route brings him right into your sights. Be patient, then take him out. Loot the cabin, then go back to Svyatogomyj West, then to the north exit. ***************************** Sokrovenno South, West, North ***************************** You may be wondering why there are three different directions. Well, it's because this boss battle takes place in three different areas. -Good Eats- Two Markhor Goats. One in Sokrovenno West, and one in Sokrovenno North. -Items- Mk, SVD, and M16 ammo in the small armory in Sokrovenno South. There is also some TNT in it. -Boss Battle: The End- There are many different ways to defeat this boss. I'll go into detail on each of them, but first, here is some additional information on the fight. The End is a sniper. He doesn't use bullets, he uses very high powered tranquilizors. If you get hit by one, immediatly go into the Cure menu and remove it with the knife. If you don't, and you keep the dart in you, it will make your stamima drain very fast. If you stay looking in first person view too long, you may receive a scene of The End sneaking up behind you, and putting a dart in your head. This will knock Snake out, and he'll wake up back in the jail cells of Graniny Groki, and you have to make your way ALL THE WAY BACK. Obviously this isn't something you don't want, so don't stay in FPV for too long. Also, if you save your game and restart a day or two later, then you will get a scene of him tranqing Snake and you will wake up in Graniny Gorki. The End is a very old man. After running for a while, he will take deep, loud breaths, which will help you locate where he is. He also occasionally falls asleep in the middle of battle. If you can find him while he's asleep, you get some free shots on him. As Eva says, this is a test of endurance, so unless you've played before and are really good at the battle, it will be a long one. -Sniping- Look at your map. You should see several circles. These are sniping spots. The End snipes from those spots, and you can as well. They provide decent coverage, and a good scope of the area. You will always have to find The End. He wont wander around looking for you. So run around until you get shot/shot at. When you do, go to the nearest sniping spot (or just plop where you are), use your Thermal Goggles, and look for him. When you see him, shoot him. Head shots do most damage, as with all bosses. Rinse and repeat a few times. *The zoom function on the Ak and M16 can also be used in place of the rifle. -Finding The End- Don't have the SVD? Or just trying to tranq him? You're going to have to find the old guy. While I can't tell you exactly where he is, since it's always different, I can give you tips on finding him, as well as some additional notes: Every so often, crouch down and do a sweep of the area with the Directional Microphone. Listen for his heavy breathing, footsteps, and even sometimes, snores. This will give you the general direction of which he is in. Thermal Goggles help a lot. You can use them to look for his footsteps, or to see if you've actually found him, or just a discolored rock (he does blend in very well). If you feel you're close to The End, stop using the joystick to move and use the D-Pad. He'll hear you otherwise. The End has excellent vision. If you're running around poorly camouflaged, he will shoot you. Even if you're all the way across the screen. Stay camouflaged and stay sneaky. Don't forget about the Markhor Goats in Sokrovenno North and West. They provide good stamina recovery, and there is an unlimited number of them. If you killed one, leave the screen, go back, and he's there again. This is helpful if The End's darts sapped away a lot of your stamina. The End has photosynthetic abilities. He calls upon the spirits of the forest to refill his stamina. If he does this, you have to start tranqing him all over. People claim that killing his parrot will make him not use his photo- synthetic abilities, but I've tried and it hasn't worked for me. Speaking of his parrot, killing or tranqing The End's parrot pisses him off. He'll become much more agressive. Once you're close to The End, take out your weapon of choice and shoot him. If it's not the shotgun, you can usually get about three or four shots off. After that, he falls to the ground, throws a Stun Grenade, and runs. Now you must find him again. -Nothing- You may say "wtf" at that, but it's true. You can beat The End by doing absolutely nothing. Save your game at any point in the battle. Turn off your PS2. When you turn it back on (with the disk out, or tray open) go to Browser and set the date to a week ahead. Start up the game again, and load your save. You'll find out that The End has died of natural causes. This does not count as a kill, but you don't get the Mosin Nagant. -The End's Equipment- There are two things you can get from The End. His rifle, the Mosin Nagant, and his camo, the Moss uniform. To get the Moss uniform you must sneak up behind The End and hold him up. He'll get on the ground. Point your weapon at his head a few times. He'll refuse to give you anything the first two times, but on the third time, he'll shake and give you the uniform. To get the Mosin Nagant, simply defeat The End by depleting his stamina. -Ocelot Unit- If you killed The End way back at the docks, there obviously wont be a boss battle here. Instead, many members of the Ocelot Unit will be in each area. ************************* Krasnogorje Mountain Base ************************* -Good Eats- Try the White Rumped Vultures. They are really good eats. -Items- Serum and Smoke Grenades right in front of you. Grenades and Chaff Grenades on the high hill. SVD and Mk22 ammo under the large rock, along with some Serum. -Strategy- We're temporarily out of the jungle, so that means change in your attire. The Choco Chip+Desert face paint combination works well, but if you tranqed Ocelot, the Animals uniform works even better. Head northeast, down the slope, and stop when you reach a hilly area. Head as far east as you until you reach the cliff. Lay down here, and crawl north. You'll reach a huge rock. Instead of going under it, crawl around the left of it. After passing the rock, stop. A guard should be approaching where you are. Wait for him to turn back around, the continue north, to the exit. ************************ Krasnogorje Mountainside ************************ -Good Eats- Vultures, again. -Items- SVD, Ak, M19, and M37 ammo, as well as some Antidote in the big crevice near the start. Stun Grenades in the first tiny cave. Styptic, SVD and M16 ammo and WP Grenades in the second cave. M16 ammo in the third tiny cave. And Bandage in the fourth tiny one. RPG-7 and TNT in the first hut. Serum, Splint, and Disinfectant in the second. RC Mate, and three Russian Rations in the third. -Strategy- From your starting position, whip out your sniper rifle and look north. There should be a guard standing at the top of an incline. Take him out. Look just a little above him, and you should see another guard. Take him out as well. Move up the path. Once you pass the anti aircraft gun, go up the small incline, and crawl. There is a guard up here. Crawl west til you reach another small incline. A guard should be at the top of this one. Take him out with a suppressed weapon, and move on. You can take the high road, or the low road. I suggest the high road, since it offers more of a tactical advantage. Once you reach the end of the high road, crouch down and get ready to snipe again. There is a guard directly below Snake, on the lower area. Take him out first. Then, look north, and take out the guard standing in front of a building. Jump down, and start continuing on. Once you've reached the second hut though, stop. Get on the right side of the hut, and slowly crawl north. There is a guard blocking the exit. Take him out from your laying position, and move on. -Interesting Information- Remember that Hind back at Bolshaya Past Base? Well if you destroyed it, the Hind will not appear here. Guards on hovercrafts will. And enemy locations will be changed, just a little. *********************** Krasnogorje Mountaintop *********************** -Good Eats- Vultures, still. -Items- In the shack directly west from your starting point, you will find Grenades, Smoke Grenades, and M37 ammo. In the armory with the wooden door is SVD, RPG, and M63 ammo, as well as some Claymores and TNT. In the second small hut in the northwest corner, you can find a Suture Kit, Bandage, and Ointment. -Strategy From the starting position, begin crawling immediately. Crawl directly along east to the first shack building, in the direction of the first red door. Then, wrap around to where the trench intersects to the northwest from that shack. You should be on the eastern side of the intersection in the trench, but not IN the trench. This all should be done in one nonstop crawling motion. There, the guard in the trench should have his back turned to you, walking away from you. Tranq him in the head when he nears the far end of the trench there. Then, move north from your current position to the armory building. Climb down into the trench there. There should be a pair of steps not two feet in front of you, directly in front of the pair of steps you just climbed down with. DO NOT climb up the steps. There's a tunnel in the "wall" of the first western step. Go in and go to the end of that tunnel, but do not go out of it yet. Wait for a guard there to see the sleeping body of the guard you just tranqed. When he heads in that guard's direction with his back to you, get out of the tunnel and hurry your ass out of that trench. Get out of the trench on the eastern side, near another shack building. Begin crawling again. Crawl north toward the little bridge over the trench. When you get to it, do not cross it. Instead, turn east at the bridge. Continue crawling along east. There will be a guard down in the trench, walking east, his back to you. When he climbs out of the trench at the spot with an oil barrel, tranq him in the head. Then, just climb down into the trench and feel free to sprint all the way to the ruins. ************************************* Krasnogorje Mountaintop: Behind Ruins ************************************* -Strategy- Do I really need to tell you? Go back inside! -Interesting Information- Use your sniper rifle and see if you can hit any guards down in Groznyj Grad. If you can, you'll be sent into alert mode, and two Hinds will come to fire at you. ***************************** Krasnogorje Mountaintop Ruins ***************************** -Good Eats- Two packs of Instant Noodles. -Items- M16, SVD, Mosin Nagant, and Ak ammo, and some Claymore mines. -Strategy- Leave through the south exit. *********************** Krasnogorje Mountaintop *********************** -Strategy- Crawl down until you have a good view of the anti aircraft gun, and barrel. Wait until the flamethrower wielding guy climbs up the steps, then climbs back down. As soon as he climbs back down, you should be up and heading to those steps he was just on. Go east and slide down just a little to the snowy plat- form. Wit for the guard below you to turn around and start heading north, before sliding down again, and then again to reach the red door, which continues our journey. ******************************* Groznyj Grad Underground Tunnel ******************************* -Items- You can find M16, M37, and M19 ammo near the bottom of the stairs. Bandage, and Ointment right before the big room. Mk22, and Ak ammo in front of the barrels, and a Battery behind them. After the battle with The Fury, you can find Bandage, Disinfectant, and Ointment in the area with the ladder, as well as Mk22 ammo and an Mk22 suppressor. -Strategy- Head down the stairs, into the big room, and down the ladder. -Boss Battle: The Fury- When the battle begins, move into the corridor to the right of the one you start in. Walk south a bit and look in FPV through the archway in the corridor at the elevated floor area to the west. The Fury always begins the battle flying and he always lands at the southern side of the arena. You can tell where he lands by watching for a light when you hear him landing. The Night Vision Goggles make finding The Fury a lot easier. Whenever you find him, I suggest shooting him several times with SVD rounds, or once with a Mosin round (since that's all you can do at a time). Always move after you've shot him. He'll fill the hall with flames. If you manage sneak up on The Fury, or he lands near you, you can PPK him to rip his suit. Ripping his suit allows you you too himt from all angles, and it also makes him vulnerable to things like explosives, or RPGs. So if you just happen to lure him by the explosive barrels after ripping his suit, make good use of that. The Fury has three attacks. 1. He will fill a hall full of flames. He usually does this after being attacked, but later in the battle, he'll do it whenever. 2. Blast off. He'll charge up his jetpack and fly across to a different area of the room. 3. Blast off canon ball. He'll stand at one end of the hall, and charge his jetpack. When he goes flying, it will be in a canon ball type move heading straight for you. Kinda like Kano from Mortal Kombat. -New Uniform- If you manage to defeat The Fury by depeleting his stamina, you get the Fire camo uniform. It halves all damage taken by fire or explosives. After defeating The Fury, collect the camo if you got it, then head north and up the ladder. ********************** Groznyj Grad Southwest ********************** -Good Eats- -Items- Mk22, SVD, and M16 ammo, Styptic and Bandage, as well as Chaff Grenades under the big container things at the very beginning. M19 suppressor in the smaller truck near the north exit -Strategy- Well Snake has penetrated (Get your mind out of the gutter) the impenetrable fortress. Once again, a change in threads is recommended. The best face paint to use in the area is Black, and the best uniform is Splitter. Remember this only brings you to 45% standing, 60% crouching, and 75% laying, so it's not hard for the enemy to see you. From your starting point, get on top of the boxes that are directly behind Snake, then get on the the black area on the ground. You should see a guard. If you don't, then wait, he'll be there. As soon as you see him, put him down with a headshot. Equip your Thermal Goggles and head southwest. You should see a guard there. Take him out. Run east just a little bit, til you're just past the red and white striped barricade. Look directly north and take out the guard that is there. Then go where the guard to the east was, and look across the way, and take out the guard over there. Exit through the very northwest door. ********************** Groznyj Grad Northwest ********************** -Items- The M63 is in the armory to the northwest, if you didn't get it before. If you did get it, M63 ammo will be in it's place. There is also M16, M37, and Ak ammo in the armory, along with some TNT. Ak and Mk22 ammo in the open truck right behind the row of tanks. -Strategy- From the entrance run east, past the barricades, until you have a good view of right in between the rows of tanks. Take the guard out that is standing there. Then take out your sniper rifle, and stay there for a moment. Another guard should appear to the immediate north. Take him out. If the dogs give you any problems, just kill them before they can make too much noise. The dogs seeing you does not count as an alert. Run to the east of the tanks, and again whip our your sniper rifle. Look north and take out the guard there. Just a little north of where you entered is a large red gate, and east of that gate is a door. Exit through the door. -Interesting Information- If you want to make the trip easier, just get into the back of the truck that's in the north of this area. Put on Cardboard Box 1 and you'll be transported in Groznyj Grad. Just remember to put the Scientists disguise on and take off any face paint *Thanks to SwordofSamson for giving me this tip* ********************** Groznyj Grad Northeast ********************** -Good Eats- Two RC Mates and a Russian Ration in the food storage shack to the very north- west of the area. -Items- Mk22 ammo, WP Grenades, Smoke Grenades, Stun Grenades, Chaff Grenades, and Grenades in the two open trucks. -Strategy- From your starting point, head north until you're just a little north of the building. Whip out your sniper rifle and put on you Thermal Goggles. You should see two guards, and one guard's head. Take em all out quickly. You don't want to be noticed. Head west to their bodies, and stand where the south guard was. Another guard should be coming from behind a building. Take him out. Head northeast a little til you see the red door of the big building. Enter it. *********************************** Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing *********************************** -Items- A mousetrap on the first floor, east side room, Suture Kit, Ointment, and Antidote on the first floor, west side room. A Book in the library like room. Mk22 Suppressor, M16, Mk22, and M37 ammo, and the Scorpiom submachine gun in the first floor armory. -Strategy- AS SOON AS YOU ENTER PUT ON THE SCIENTIST DISGUISE AND TAKE OFF ANY FACEPAINT. Like in Graniny Gorki, this will disguise you from the soldiers. This area is mainly a game of waiting. You have to wait for Raikov to go up the stairs and into the locker room. The locker room is on the second floor west side. You can't force him, or he'll grab your crotch (seriously) and throw you down telling you to get back to work. You can grab him and drag him into the locker room, but this almost always results in an alert, and you don't want that. Anyways, once you get him in the locker room, kill him, knock him out, or put him to sleep. If you're in the locker room, you'll automatically receive a cutscene of you stuffing him in a locker. After that, leave through the door west of you. *********************************** Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: Main Wing *********************************** -Strategy- Come on. Do I really need to say what to do? ******************************************** Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: West Wing Corridor ******************************************** -Strategy- I shouldn't have to tell you what to do here either. Just don't take off your costume or kill the guards. Watch the long string of cutscenes as follows. ************************* Groznyj Grad Torture Room ************************* -Good Eats- Rats. Stab em with the fork and Snake eats them immediatly. -Items- Camera in the office room. Styptic, Ointment, Disinfectant, Bandage, and Suture Kit are in the medical room. -Strategy- You're locked in a cell. There are three ways to get out of it. 1. Call 144.75 on the radio and the door will unlock. If you're going for no alerts, then this is best done with the guard is in the bathroom. 2. Spin Snake around in the Survival Viewer a lot. When you exit, he'll throw up. Do this in front of Johnny. If he sees it, he'll go in and clean it up, and you can escape. 3. Go into the Cure menu and use the fork to remove the item from Snake's leg. (Also, if you want, remove the transmitter from his shoulder as well) It's actually a Fake Death Pill. Use it, wait until Johnny comes in, then use the Revival Pill. -Interesting Information- You know that food the guard gives to you? Well instead of eating it, throw it through the whole in the cell door. If he's near it, he'll see it and eat it. Do this three times, and you'll get a cutscene showing a conversation with him. Surprise! It's Johnny Sasaki! Not the one from MGS and MGS2, mind you, this is his grandfather. He'll give you your Cigars. If you got the Cig-Gas Spray earlier in the game, he'll give you that instead of cigars. Save the game while in the cell, and load it up later. You will be in a game called Snake's Nightmare. It's quite fun, and offers a different style of gameplay. You don't necessarily have to take the transmitter out of Snake's back. While taking it out makes a later area easier, leaving it in gives you a hilarious scene. Also notice that whenever you look in FPV now, a small section on the right side is faded. Kind of like when you close your eye. Small detail, but still neat. ********************** Groznyj Grad Southeast ********************** -Good Eats- It's gonna be rats for a while... -Items- Cardboard Box C (Don't worry, you didn't miss B) behind the torture building. -Strategy- Run south until you reach the wall, then run west, but stay as close to the south wall as possible. When you can't run west anymore, run north, crouch down, and crawl through the hole. ********************** Groznyj Grad Northeast ********************** -Strategy- As soon as you reach the other side, get up, and run straight west. Don't go northwest a little, don't go southwest a little, go straight west. It may take a few times, but we're trying to do this without any alerts (Because you know, you're unarmed) so just try until you get it right. Once you reach the west wall, go through the door. ********************** Groznyj Grad Northwest ********************** -Strategy- Run directly north. Just keep going and don't stop. When you get near the sleeping dog, move west just a little bit so you don't wake it up, then go northeast to get to the door. Once past it, get down, crawl under the two large pipes, and you'll automatically go into the sewer. ******************* Groznyj Grad Sewers ******************* -Good Eats- Russian Ration under the stair case. Instant Noodles, and a Russian Ration under the water in the second area. -Items- SAA ammo directly south of where you start. Life Medicine to the west of where you start. Styptic, and SAA bullets under the water in the second area. -Strategy- Head down the stairs, and north. When you reach the first area that you cannot pass, climb on the ledge to the left and crawl through the hole. Head north then crawl through the hole in the west. Once you reach the other side, head north. Be wary though. Once you get a certain distance away from the hole, a dog will crawl through it and follow you. Kill it. Go up one of the staircases on the right hand side, and head north til you reach the last possible hole to go through on the right side. After exiting the hole, head north. Again, after a certain distance a dog will come out. But another dog will be with it. Either kill them both, or keep going north til you get to the hole on the west side. Once on the other side, keep heading north, and enjoy the badass cutscene. -Interesting Information- You know that door very close to the exit? Well don't get your hopes up. According to Major Zero it was the route you were going to take with Eva, but it ended up getting sealed off. ********* ----?---- ********* Yes, that is the name of this place. -Boss "Battle": The Sorrow- The Sorrow's boss battle is...well...it's not even a battle. You can't do anything to him. He has an empty life bar. During this battle, there are ghosts everywhere. Every so often you will encounter the ghost of a boss you have beaten. Touching the ghosts does damage to you. For this battle, you have access to your backpack again. You can use whatever weapons you like. Now, while using weapons against the ghosts doesn't defeat them, it does stun them, giving you just a brief moment to walk past without them toiching you. While there are no ways to "beat" him, per'se, but there are ways to end the battle. 1. Keep walking to the end of the river. Touch the skeleton in the water, and Snake will "die". When the continue screen comes up, press L2 and choose the Revival Pill, and use with Circle. 2. Dive under the water and stay there til Snake suffocates. When the continue screen comes up, press L2 and choose the Revival Pill, and use with Circle. 3. Get hit by the ghosts and The Sorrow till Snake "dies". When the continue screen comes up, press L2 and choose the Revival Pill, and use with Circle. The Sorrow's only attack is some kind of psychadelic blast. It takes away health, and makes you see an image. You see a different image each time. If you didn't understand by what The Sorrow said, the length of the battle is determined by how many people you have killed in the game. If you killed a lot, this battle can go on for over twenty minutes. If you killed none, you'll just see the bosses. -New Uniform- If you make it all the way to the end of the river, and touch The Sorrow's skeleton, you will have his Spirit camo uniform. This uniform makes it so guards can't hear your footsteps (Yes, I know you the player can, but guards cannot). It also allows you to recover stamina for choking an enemy in CQC. ********** Tikhogomyj ********** -Good Eats- A Markhor goat to the left of where Snake starts, and a Giant Anaconda to the right of where he starts. -Items- After meeting Eva, go back outside the waterfall, and dive into the deep water that is there. The Kabuko face paint is at the bottom. -Strategy- As soon as you start, head east, and then north up a hill. Keep heading north until you can't anymore, than head west. You'll come to a long that is bridging the gap between both sides. Climb across it. Once across, go into the shallow part of the water, and walk upstream til you reach another area of land. Head east on it, then north, then continue going up the river. When you reach the waterfall, walk along the pathway on the side and go in. -Ocelot Unit Strategy- -Interesting Information- If you captured a live Tsuchinoko earlier in the game, after meeting with Eva and getting your stuff back, go back outside the waterfall and use your Thermal Goggles to look around. You should see your Tsuchinoko trying to crawl away. Shoot him with the tranq gun. Remember, you don't want him dead, and you don't want to eat him. **************************** Tikhogomyj: Behind Waterfall **************************** Yay, you have your stuff back! And you have an eyepatch! Take a moment to get your preferred stuff re-equipped, and let's move on. -Items- Disinfectant, and an Mk22 suppressor in the area you start in. M19 suppressor, Styptic, Bandage, Mk22 ammo, Ak ammo, M19 ammo, and Cardboard Box B can be found in the long hallway, and Mk22 ammo in the room at the end. -Strategy- Just keep going down the hall til you reach the end. Go into the room, and up the ladder. ********************** Groznyj Grad Northwest ********************** -Items- Same stuff that was here before. -Strategy- From your starting point, run as far south as you can. When you get to the wall, run east, then north a short distance at the next wall, than east again. When you get to the entrance of Groznyj Grad Northeast, don't go through the door. Stay in this area. Run directly north (avoiding the dog like before), but this time, go into the truck and Equip Cardboard Box B. ****************************************** Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: Main Wing Hangar ****************************************** -Strategy- Before doing anything, let's head to the second floor, and south through the door. This place should be familiar. Go east back into the locker room. *********************************** Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: East Wing *********************************** -Strategy & Items- Yes, the strategy and items section are one and the same in this area. Open the locker where you dumped Raikov earlier, and grab the camo inside. It is the Sneaking Suit uniform. It's like The Boss' uniform, only a darker color. It cuts damage in half, and reduces stamina consumption. But that's not all. There is a row of lockers right across from the one Raikov was in. Open the second one down to get the Maintenance uniform, which is very helpful in the main hangar. Once you have those, go back into the main hangar. ****************************************** Groznyj Grad Weapons Lab: Main Wing Hangar ****************************************** -Good Eats- Third floor, west side, there is a Russian Ration. -Strategy- First, put on the Maintenance uniform, and no paint. Secondly, put the C3 in your inventory. Just like the Scientists disguise, guards will not notice you unless you do something suspicious. Also like the Scientists disguise, only other maintenance workers can tell who you are, so don't get close to them. Go back down the stairs and head north, staying on the northeast side. Run as close as you can to the first fuel tank, and plant the bomb on the floor in front of it. If you take the time to lean against the fuel tank and plant it directly on it, you will be seen. A maintenance worker should be coming from the north, up the ramp. Hide behind the pile of wood (or huge box, or whatever that is) and wait for him to examine the fuel tank you were just at. While he's looking at that, go down the ramp, and northeast and plant C3 on that tank. You will get a call from Eva. After the call with Eva, head west, past the trucks. You will find the third fuel tank right there. However, there is a guard patrolling right next to you. Wait until he turns his back, and starts heading south before planting the C3. Head up the stairs south of you, and plant the final C3. You should have no problems, for the Maintenance worker near you will have his back turned. Watch the series of cutscenes. -Interesting Information- That time The Sorrow is holding? He's just letting you know how much time you have left. Don't worry, there's nothing you can do to change this. You'll always have the same amount of time to finish the Volgin battle. Five minutes. -Boss Battle: Volgin- Volgin can be a very difficult boss. My first time through, I didn't know you could CQC him, so I wound using the shotgun every chance I could. I never won with that technique, and just saw multiple continues. You have five minutes to defeat him. Volgin has four attacks. 1. Punches. Volgin does combination punches, with the last one sending you up in the air. Snake vomits after some of Volgin's punches. Luckily, these are east to avoid. 2. Electric bolt. Volgin will charge his power for a moment, then shoot it all out in a direction. The easiest way to avoid this is try and stay behind him. 3. Electric bullets. As he has shown through the course of the game, he can shoot bullets with his electricity. Usually before he does this, he'll move to a corner. He shoots many bullets rapidly. There's no really good advice for dodging them, just keep moving. 4. Barrage of bullets. Volgin does this move twice at the beginning of his second phase. He will continue to do it during the second phase. Basically, he'll do a long charge up, then send out a barrage of bullets in every direction. The best way to dodge this is to lay down. Seriously. Volgin is almost constantly charged with electricity. You can tell when he is, because the screen will have a blue hue to it. When he is not charged with electricity, you can grab him. If you don't mind kills, then CQC throw him, and shoot him twice in the head (or once in the shotgun) while he is on the ground. He'll then get up, and you'll have to repeat your process of dodging til you can throw him again. If you don't want any kills, then when he's not charged, CQC grab him, don't throw him. When you have him being held, push him to the ground (check the CQC section if you don't know how). Then roll vertically over him. Rinse and repeat. During the first half of the fight, Ocelot will throw down ammo for you when you start to get low. When Volgin has his health or stamina guage brought down halfway, a cutscene will occur. After that cutscene, get down on the ground and stay there. Volgin starts off by doing a barrage of bullets twice in a row. Other than the additional attack, the phase can be done in basically the same way as the first. -Volgin tips- Put on the Raikov mask at any point in the battle. Volgin will get freaked out and say "Ivan?!", and go to his knees, giving you time for some free shots. This only works once in the battle. There are pipes on the underside of the bridge in the middle of the stage and they extrend over the the wall. If you shoot them, water will spill out. Water damages, and momentarily stuns Volgin. -New Uniform- Defeat Volgin by completely draining his stamina gauge, and you will get the Cold War camo uniform. This camo has the Soviet flag design on the front, and the US flag design on the back. If you're facing enemy facing soldiers, they will not attack you. But if you turn your back to them, they will. ***************** CHASE SCENE AREAS ***************** In every area where you are being chased, you have infinite ammo for EVERY weapon. The ones I recommend are the M16, or Mk22 if you're doing no kills. Oh, and if you managed to beat Volgin by tranqing him, the Cold War camo is a big help during these chase scenes. Face the enemies, and they will not shoot you. If you don't have that, then wear the Sneaking Suit since it cuts damage in half. -Groznyj Grad- When Eva says "Snake, up ahead!", there are two guards in front of you, and one to the right. Take them out, and Eva will start driving again. She'll say "Up ahead" and then "Look up ahead". There are guards there, you can take them out to make it easier, but she'll keep driving whether or not you do. When she stops near the tanks, shoot the three guards standing to the north of you, and then the three guards in the walkway on top. Then she'll continue on. -Groznyj Grad Runway South- When Eva is near the buildings, you can either shoot the guards as she is driving, or wait til she stops. There are six guards in all in at the first stop. One behind Snake and Eva, four on the ground north of them, and one on the roof with an RPG-7 missile launcher. At the second stop, six guards are on the ground and will run towards you. Once you get rid of them, Eva will keep going, but a short time later she'll say "Above you". There is another missile launching guard on the roof right next to you, as well as four guards behind you. While taking these five out isn't necessary, it is helpful. -Groznyj Grad Runway- Now you are being chased by guys on motorcycles the whole runway. You can take out the shooter, but the driver has a gun of his own. Your best bet is to aim for the driver. This will cause the bike to crash, and both men to fall off. For those of you worried about no kills, tranqing the driver and making them both fall off does not count as a kill. Just keep taking out the drivers til the cutscene starts. After the cutscene, don't worry about the guards chasing you. The Shagohod destorys them. When the Shagohod comes close don't bother firing at it with any normal weapon. Use the RPG-7 and fire just above the red thing (How am I supposed to describe it? It's not the same color as the rest of the Shag, it's red) Anyways, firing at it depletes the Shagohod's health. Try and take as much off as possible. It carries over to the battle with him. It also makes him immediatly stop if he is firing at you. Keep this up til the cutscene. ************************ Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge ************************ The only weapon that works here (at least the only one I got to work) is the SVD sniper rifle. There are two C3 bombs planted on the bottom structure of the bridge. If you can't see them, aim with the rifle, and Eva will give you directions on which way they are. They are east to see from afar because they flash. Shoot one, and then wait for Eva to say "It's here!". At that point, shoot the second one. -Boss Battle: The Shagohod- In this battle, you must shoot the back of both treads of the Shagohod. This stops the Shagohod from moving and allows Eva to drive around to the front of it, so you can shoot a missile at that red thing you were shooting before. After shooting one (sometimes you may get lucky and have enough time for two), it starts moving again, and you must repeat the process. That's really all there is to this battle. Eva's driving prevents you from getting hit. The only thing it can do is use it's machine gun, and this weird red ray thing that comes out of the back of it. Shooting the treads stop both of those attacks immediatly. Just rinse and repeat til the bar is depleted. -Boss Battle: Volgin and Shagohod- Volgin has attached himself to the Shagohod now. Eva kicks you off the bike. She gets Volgin's attention so he will chase her around. This gives you an oppurtunity to shoot him. The best weapon to use is the SVD or Mosin Nagant. Aim for the head, because that does the most damage. When you shoot him once, his attention will turn to you, and he will chase after you. There are two things you can do at this phase. 1. Run around until Eva gets his attention again. 2. Use one of the three anti-aircraft guns, or one of the two turrets. He has a electric shield around him that prevents your weapons from doing anything, but the rapid, non-stop fire of the anti-aircraft guns and turrets can occasionally get through his shield. If you see him coming close though, don't stay in that spot. He'll run over the gun, and you, destroying the gun, and taking away health from you. Eventually, Eva will get his attention again. The Shagohod has four attacks. 1. Red ray beam thingie. This one is a powerful attack, that takes away a decent portion of health. Avoid it by running, or stand behind a turret. The mound of dirt in front of the turrets prevents this attack from hitting you. 2. Machine guns. Not as strong as the beam, but fast. The turret wont protect you from this. The best way to avoid it is running. 3. Missiles. Occasionally, Volgin will have missile shot out of the Shagohod. These things hurt. BADLY. And they give you burns as well. If you see him shoot these, you can shoot them out of the air before they hit you. 4. Running you over. If you stand too close to the Shagohod, you will get run over. Only way to avoid this is to not stand close. Shoot him whenever he has his attention on Eva, always aim for his head, and avoid his attacks. That's all you need to do in this battle. Then the chase starts back up. ***************** CHASE SCENE AREAS ***************** -Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge North- You're being chased by guards on motorcycles again. Use the same tactic as before and shoot the drivers. Every so often, you'll reach an enemy base of sorts, and more guys will join in the chase. Half way through the level, you encounter an area with parked enemy vehicles, and several guards on foot. Eva has to make a U-turn and cut through this area a different way, so take out the guards so they are not a hindrance. After that, a similar place will be found again. Luckily, Eva wont take so long at this one. Take out the guards if you wish, but it's not necessary. -Lazorevo South- Now you will be chased by guards on hover-crafts. There will always be one directly behind/above you, one to the left of you, and one to the right. Head shots take them out instantly, and cause them to crash. Near the end of the area, Eva will say "Snake, up ahead! Log!". No, she's not talking about Log from Ren & Stimpy. There is a log in your path. You must face the direction she is (Because it's obviously not behind you), take out your RPG-7, and blow up the log. After that, she'll go inbetween two cliffs, and this causes the hover guards chasing you to crash. -Lazorevo North- It's motorcycles again in this area. Use the same tactic you used before. This should be pretty easy by now. Once Eva clears the jump, the chase is over. *CRASH* *************** Zaozyorje South *************** -Good Eats- Reticulated Python south of your starting point, and another one very east of the first. -Items- Ak, SVD, Mk22, M16 ammo lying around where you start, as well as Smoke Grenades, Stun Grenades, and Grenades. -Strategy- First things first, ya got some injuries to attend to. Except now, you not only have to heal yourself, you have to heal Eva as well. Snake's wounds consist of a cut on his leg, and a broken rib. You should know how to heal both of these things by now, since you first learned them at the end of the Virtuous Mission. Eva has a cut, and a tree branch straight through her abdomen. The tree branch is treated in the same way you would treat a cut. Also, you're back in the jungle again, which means a change in attire. Leaf works best, along with the Woodland paint. Now that you are properly dressed, let's move on. This is my least favorite part of the game, I dislike it so much. Eva is slow, and has the appetite of a cow. Once her stamina gets to two bars and under, she'll start complaining about being hungry, and her legs hurting, etc. Oh, and she doesn't have any camo, so she sticks out like a sore thumb. Anyways, Eva doesn't follow you on her own. You have to press triangle to make her walk to where you are. Problem with this is, you can't go across the screen, press triangle, and expect to walk over there. You have to be relatively close to her, so she can see you, and know where to walk. Anyways, head south, then east til you can't go any further, then south again. A scene will start. After the scene, head right, up a small hill, and into the grass. Make two small stops in between your starting point, and the grass to press Triangle so Eva will come with you. Lay in the grass, and equip your Thermal Goggles. Four guards will come on screen. Using a suppressed weapon, take out all four of them. When they are all down, get up, and head south, making sure that Eva follows you. When you can't go south anymore, head west along a path. You should end up in a big area that has two large logs laying on the ground. Head east past one log, and stop when you get to the small ledge. You only exit the screen when Eva approaches, because Snake has to give her a boost. -Interesting Information- There are many fun things you can do with Eva. Try putting her to sleep, for instance. During her sleep, you'll hear her comment on her dreams with Snake, The Boss, and....Fido. You can also CQC grab her, and interrogate her to see what she says. This leads to some entertainment, if you get the jokes. If you haven't noticed, Eva lays down when you lay down. When you're both laying down, try crawling on top of her to get her angry. For even more fun, call Para-Medic when you're on top of Eva. *************** Zaozyorje North *************** -Good Eats- A Reticulated Python very close to your starting point. -Items- You can shoot certain plants for some D-Med and Styptic -Strategy- Get down, and crawl northwest just a little, then on your knee. Look west, and take out that guard with a silenced weapon. Look northeast and another guard should be close by. Take him out as well. Rise up on both legs, and take out your sniper rifle. There are two guards walking close by near the bottom. Take them both out. Don't leave sniper mode yet. There is one more guard. He'll be walking into view from the east. Shoot him, and let's move on. Don't forget Eva (I wish you could though...) Head northeast until you find yourself at a ledge. Don't jump off yet. Equip your Thermal Goggles and look down. You should see several guards down there. They are all waiting in place. You should only see two right now. Take them both out. Jump off the ledge, and crawl north a little, then get on one knee. One is directly northwest of you, and one is east of you. The one to the east is lying down. That's all of em. Head north to the exit. ************* Rokovog Berej ************* -Good Eats- There are three white snakes crawling around under the flowers. They are most commonly found near the logs. They restore your stamina completely. The three snakes are Solid, Liquid, and Solidus. -Items- Ak, M19, and Mk22 ammo can be found in this field. -Boss Battle: The Boss- The Boss battle involves using CQC. She will grab you, and throw you down. While I don't know exactly what buttons are used to counter her attacks, I found that by repeatedly pressing circle, and moving the left analog stick a lot countered her grabs 80% of the time. The Boss has three attacks. 1. CQC attacks. This involves grabbing you in a hold, and throwing you to the ground. Counter by repeatedly pressing cirlce and moving the left analog stick, or by simply running. 2. Shooting. The Boss' weapon is called a Patriot. If one of the bullets hit you, it's almost a guarantee that you will have to dig it out. Avoid this by running, or attacking her. 3. If she finds you laying on the ground, she'll do this jump thing and land on you. As soon as the battle starts, The Boss comes running towards you, ready to throw you. Counter her with the way said above. When she is stunned, throw her to the ground. When she is on the ground, you can shoot her twice, or roll over her to do damage. Doing a PPK combo also knocks her to the ground. If you're low on health, or just want to be stylish, hide in the flowers every so often and attack her from there. The Snow uniform and facepaint work best. Once you shoot her though, she will become aware of where you are. For some fun things, put on the Monkey Mask in front of The Boss. She'll make some comments on it, questioning your sanity, and asking what the mask is for. -New Uniform- Defeat The Boss by draining her stamina gauge, and you will get the Snake uniform. This supposedly gives the "ultimate" camouflage in any area. It didn't seem to. -Assasinating The Boss- It may be hard, and emotional, but press square and pull the trigger. -Interesting Information- When The Boss' horse approaches, hold R1. You'll see The Boss and The Sorrow together again. ************* WIG: Interior ************* -Strategy- Ocelot wants his final showdown. There are two revolvers on the ground. One holds a bullet, and one does not. The one on the right is empty. If you want the SAA on your next playthrough, then choose the one on the right. When the time comes, pull the trigger several times. At least until Ocelot fires off his shot. -Interesting Information- There are four ways for this to come out. 1. You pick the empty one, Ocelot picks the loaded one. He shoots, it's a blank, he laughs about it, and let's you keep the revolver. 2. You pick the loaded one. You shoot, it's a blank, he laughs, and takes his revolver back. 3. You pick the loaded one. You don't shoot. He asks why you didn't pull the trigger and takes his revolver back. 4. You pick the loaded one. You shoot, but aim it so it misses him. Outcome unknown on this one, for I haven't tried it. After that, watch the magnificent ending, then play again. You want to get everything, don't you?
